Top 5 Most Common Green Myths

The environment is a hot topic these days, and many people are looking for ways to do their part.  However, there are some myths about the environment that need debunking before we can make good decisions. Here is a list of the top five most common green myths:

1) The process of recycling paper uses more energy than making new paper from virgin materials.

2) Green power sources like wind or solar are better for the environment than fossil fuels! Fact: Wind turbines kill over 400,000 birds every year in North America alone.

3) Recycling isn’t good enough – recycling only delays the inevitable environmental disaster that will happen if we keep consuming natural resources at our current rates.

4) Organic food is healthier than non-organic food – there are no significant nutritional differences between organic and non-organic foods. The main difference between them is that organic produce has been grown without pesticides, while some studies suggest that pesticide residues found in conventional foods might be linked with health problems such as cancer and allergies.

5) All plastics are recyclable – false! Only certain types of plastic can be recycled with success and many others cannot be recycled at all.
